Unlocking Earth's most abundant source of protein.

Introducing leaf protein, a biodiverse & sustainable plant protein ingredient for Food Companies.

Re-envisioning our food sources for the future.

Increasing plant biodiversity

Our conventional food systems have reduced the biodiversity of our agriculture and as a result the foods we eat. According to the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation, since the 1900s 75% of plant genetic diversity has been lost.

This loss of biodiversity has significant impacts on our global food security, and the demand for protein as the world’s population continues to grow.

Leaf protein is the most abundant source of protein by volume. Not only is it a sustainable source of plant protein, it can also aid in the regeneration of degraded farmland and help reverse climate change.

At The Leaf Protein, we’re carefully selective of our leaf sources. We work with both waste leaf material as well as perennial leafy crops.

Our extraction process also produces waste streams that can be further valorised as other food ingredients, animal feed and packaging materials.

We’ve selected regenerative plants as our leaf sources. Including saltbush and other halophytic plants that can survive arid conditions, resist drought and improve soil health.

Partnering with farmers

Many crops today produce large volumes of leafy by-products, which can become a source of leaf protein. This offers farmers an opportunity to valorise what are often large waste streams.

Also, regenerative crops such as saltbush can be farmed where mainstream commercial crops struggle to grow. This provides farmers with sustainable alternative crops as our weather patterns become increasingly unpredictable.

Our Processes

We’ve designed our extraction processes to retain and preserve the functional nutrition held within all plants.

This is why we take great care in the production of our leaf protein ingredients. Our extraction methods are free from by-products that can damage the environment. All by-products from our process can be consumed as food ingredients, feed or biofuel.
